How much do SMBs spend on social media? To find out, Bredin recently surveyed 500 U.S. SMB principals.
On average, SMBs spend roughly a third of their marketing budget on social media, with very little variance by headcount.
What percentage of your total marketing budget is allocated to social media marketing?
However, the amount SMBs spend on social media platforms varies dramatically by headcount. For example, for very small businesses (VSBs, with 1-19 employees), average monthly spending ranges from $103 on Snapchat to $530 on X. Small businesses (SBs, with 20-99 employees) spend from $208 per month on Threads to $1,790 on YouTube. Midsized businesses (MBs, with 100-500 employees) spend from $1,585 per month on Pinterest to $3,843 on Bluesky.
